THE 2024 HITCHCOCK FILM FESTIVAL

Spring: The snow has melted (we hope), the leaves are starting to come out, we get out the bikes and lawn furniture, start planting and preparing our yards and gardens, and retreat into a dark theater for... HITCHCOCK! That's right, the Heights and Trylon Cinema are bringing back the 2024 Hitchcock Film Festival, five classic films from four decades, one on glorious 35mm at the Heights Theater.

THE LADY VANISHES in 35MM

April 4, 2024, 7:30 p.m.

When Miss Froy (May Whitty) vanishes, fellow traveler Iris Henderson (Margaret Lockwood) can't seem to find anyone who will even acknowledge old Froy was on the train. Enter the dashing Gilbert (Michael Redgrave) who tries to help Iris--soon both of them have fallen into a dastardly plot! At once a metaphor for British appeasement to Hitler and also cracking good tale, THE LADY VANISHES cemented Hitch's reputation and convinced David O. Selznick to bring him to the states.

SHADOW OF A DOUBT

NEW 4K RESTORATION!

Uncle Charlie (Joseph Cotten) is Young Charlie's (Theresa Wright) favorite relative. She's bored to tears in her little town and is enthralled by her worldly-wise uncle, who has returned from the city to visit his sister. But her admiration curdles to suspicion when Uncle Charlie's dark past begins to reveal itself. One of Hitchcock's personal favorites, SHADOW OF A DOUBT is perhaps his most underrated masterpiece.

DIAL M FOR MURDER

Spoiled tennis player Tony Wendice (Ray Milland) is jealous that his lovely wife, Margot (Grace Kelly), is having an affair. To make matters worse, she's the one with money, so divorce is a really bad idea. What seems like a good idea to Tony is to entice a down-on-his-luck school chum to kill Margo. What appears to be a foolproof plan goes awry, but can the cunning Tony concoct another scheme that will send Margot to her death?

FRENZY

May 2, 2024, 7:30 p.m.

When hot-tempered bartender Richard (Jon Finch) loses his job, he mopes around London, eventually visiting his ex-wife to cadge a tenner. The visit turns sour, they argue, and he storms away. Soon after, she's visited by the gruesome Necktie Murderer, who leaves her dead--and the nosy neighbors are ready to pin the crime on Richard. Hitchcock's return to England resulted in a grimy, violent, but often hilarious thriller that was perfectly suited for the realistic thrillers 1970s. Maligned in its time, FRENZY is now recognized as a classic.

Presented by The Heights Theater and The Trylon Cinema.

DCP - Universal Pictures.

NORTH BY NORTHWEST

April 25, 2024, 7:30 p.m.

BONUS SCREENING ADDED MONDAY APRIL 29th, our Thursday April 25th screening is sold out!!

Charming ad man Roger O. Thornhill (or ROT, to his friends) must run for his life when he's mistaken for an American spy by a dastardly criminal organization. Avoiding death by drunk driving; by gun and knife and gravity; and, most famously, by a crop-dusting, gun-toting plane in the middle of Illinois, poor Thornhill must eventually not only save himself, but the beautiful Eve.

Hitchcock urged screenwriter Ernest Lehman to pull out all the stops, resulting in a breathtaking adventure whose insane plot twists somehow work in spite of themselves. Cary Grant was never more charming, Eve Marie Saint never more alluring, and Hitchcock never more assured. The only way to witness such suspenseful majesty is on the Heights' silver screen.

Presented by The Heights Theater and The Trylon Cinema.
