Born into a family suffering from what they believe to be a multi-generational curse, Stanley Yelnats (played by Shia Lebouf in an electric film debut) is no exception to his namesake’s fate. Just a teenager, Stanley is a victim of circumstance when he is wrongly convicted for stealing a pair of sneakers, and is subsequently sent to the juvenile detention center Camp Green Lake in rural Texas. While there, Stanley and his fellow inmates spend most of their days digging holes across a dried lake bed, with no idea what they’re digging for. All the while, the boys work against the relentless Texas heat, poisonous lizards, and the oppressive eyes of Warden Walker (Sigourney Weaver) and head counselor Mr. Sir (Jon Voight). Featuring an incredible cast of personalities, this ragtag ensemble of teenage boys from all walks of life must learn to work together if they ever are to solve the secrets of Camp Green Lake, and in turn the mystery of the Yelnats curse.
