Recently returned to Bunker Hill, Steve Thompson (Burt Lancaster) lands a job driving an armored car. When he discovers his ex-wife (Yvonne De Carlo) is now married to gangster Slim Dundee (a seething Dan Duryea), a desperate Steve plans a heist to win her back, eliminate Slim, and retire with the loot.
