Developer Frank R. Enley (Van Heflin) is a successful man, adored by his young wife and grateful neighbors, who admire his success. Limping Joe Parkson (Robert Ryan), who served in World War II with Frank, is a dark figure, angry, eager to kill, the very personification of evil.
